We have been around computers for a what seems to be quiet a while. It started with a commodore 64.
Then came windows... Microsoft windows was when the real thorn in my side started to develop.
We had so much trouble with operating systems such as Win 95, 98 and ME. Not just the operating system but also the badly written software my system was for ever crashing. As we were new to Microsoft we did not know a lot and kept asking friends of friends to come and take a look. This help was costly even though we appreciated the help we was with out a pc for weeks sometimes.
This is how our journey started. We got so fed up that we decided to learn how to fix things for our self. It was not that hard either, we had to learn how to use the command line interface and type commands for the computer to understand. Then came Windows 2K and we moved to the NT platform and loved it. It had a registry that we could hack and was password protected. This was the time we started looking into getting qualified so off we was to the book shop. Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) was what we thought to be the way ahead!
Reading this course of books was dull. Actually we really mean DULL. Many pictures of screen shots and tick boxes. Eventually after enough dull reading we came across the most interesting sentence in the book. It went something like this. “Don't worry about the internet connection, leave that to the Unix or Linux guys.” Well, the bottom of my new career fell from the ninth floor to the basement. we closed the book and through it backwards over my shoulder. Did we read that right? Did we understand what was being said? In a corporate environment windows should not be connected to the outside world. Wow.
So... we went to the book shop and looked up UNIX and Linux. we spent a few years understanding what the differences are but no longer had an interest in working in that field.
However, we am a hobbyist with Linux and self taught. Free and open source is now the way to go. The Linux desktop is probably one of the best kept secrets.
If you are having trouble with your pc with a Microsoft Windows operating system on or find it is now running slow maybe you should upgrade to Linux and keep your old machine.
What Linux can do for you?
If you want to use a user friendly that is easy to use computer to surf the internet, connect to social media sites e.g. facebook, email, use a calendar, write letters, use spread sheets, view and edit photographs, edit and watch films, rip or convert films, edit and listen to sound or music, rip or convert sound or music, learn to type and even have fun with games. This is not a full list just a few of the things we do on Linux.
If you are looking for a change and free one's self from the spyware and limits of the Microsoft systems send us an email with the subject "Linux".
